I was actually talking about the head-covering/wigs of Jewish women with a professor once, and she said when they immigrated to Europe; they wanted to assimilate with the European culture, so they wore wigs to cover their real hair… The wigs was not originally part of their religion, it really doesn’t have a religious connotation. You still see some Jewish women wear the scarfs on their heads. With the whole concept of the wigs, the women thought they were still being covered, the same way you may see them or other women wear skin colored stockings to cover their skin…
